Apple has detailed the audio systems inside its new HomeView smart display, including separate speaker designs for the tabletop and wall-mounted models. Both versions support Spatial Audio, computational audio, multiroom playback, and a four-microphone array for Siri and FaceTime.
The two HomeView models will be available in the United States on November 13 for $299.
Tabletop HomeView adds bass hardware
The tabletop version places two custom full-range drivers inside the display. Its domed base houses a down-firing woofer and two force-canceling passive radiators, giving the model additional hardware dedicated to lower frequencies.
Apple says the arrangement spreads the audio components between the screen and stand to produce clear sound with extended bass. The company has also designed the tabletop model to support Spatial Audio.
An A18 chip and built-in sensors power HomeView’s computational audio features. This processing continuously adjusts loudness and bass response, which Apple says helps keep the sound balanced at different volume levels.
Wall-mounted model uses a different tuning
The wall-mounted HomeView contains two custom drivers and uses computational audio tuned for its placement against a wall. Unlike the tabletop model, it does not include the additional woofer and passive radiators in the base.
Despite the simpler speaker arrangement, the wall-mounted version also supports Spatial Audio. Apple has not described additional differences in audio performance between the two models.
Music playback and Handoff
HomeView can join multiroom audio setups with other HomeView devices, HomePod, HomePod mini, and AirPlay-compatible speakers. Users can also transfer music from an iPhone through Handoff by placing the phone in front of the HomeView display.
Apple Music users will see animated album artwork and lyrics on the screen. Apple Podcasts and compatible third-party audio apps can provide other types of audio content.
Microphones support Siri and FaceTime
Both models include four beamforming microphones. Apple says the array can capture voices from across a room while reducing background noise, supporting Siri requests and FaceTime calls.
The combination of dedicated speaker hardware, sensor-assisted processing, and beamforming microphones positions HomeView as an audio-focused smart display rather than simply a screen with built-in speakers. The tabletop model offers the more substantial speaker system, while the wall-mounted version is tuned for a more space-saving installation.
