Honor has previewed a new collection of ARRI Look Cinematic Video filters for the upcoming Magic9 series. Developed with German camera manufacturer ARRI, the filters will let users apply different cinematic color grades to video with a single tap.

The preview is part of Honor’s broader effort to connect the Magic9 lineup with professional filmmaking. The company has already showcased the Magic9 Pro Max at the 83rd Venice Film Festival, and the latest demonstration features actor Xiao Zhan, who serves as Honor’s global flagship ambassador.

How the ARRI video filters work

Honor says the filters adjust the color grading of footage to match the look associated with several ARRI cameras. Rather than requiring manual editing after recording, users can select a look directly while shooting video.

The feature also includes a color-temperature adjustment. That gives users an additional way to change the warmth or coolness of their footage after choosing an ARRI-style grade, although Honor has not provided more details about the available controls.

The partnership is notable because ARRI’s cameras are widely associated with professional film and television production. On the Magic9 series, the collaboration appears focused on simplifying some of the visual treatment used in cinematic workflows for smartphone users.

Magic9 Pro Max camera details

Honor has also shared several camera specifications for the Magic9 Pro Max. The phone will include two 200-megapixel cameras: a main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor and a telephoto camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor.

The Pro Max will support a new 500mm teleconverter kit in addition to the existing 200mm kit. Honor has not disclosed all of the teleconverter’s technical details, but the accessory is intended to extend the phone’s reach for distant subjects.

The combination of high-resolution sensors, telephoto hardware and ARRI-inspired video processing positions the Pro Max as the camera-focused model in the upcoming range. Actual image and video performance will depend on Honor’s software implementation as well as the final hardware configuration.

Honor Magic9 launch date

Honor will unveil the Magic9 series on September 28. The company is also working on a Super Edition model with an 11,000mAh battery, though it has not confirmed whether that phone will launch alongside the main Magic9 lineup.

More information about the ARRI filters, supported cameras and recording modes is expected when Honor formally presents the series. Until then, the preview confirms that cinematic video tools and long-range photography will be central parts of the Magic9 Pro Max’s pitch.
