Amazon UK’s Prime Big Deal Days promotion makes the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 £450 cheaper than the newer Galaxy Z Flip8, giving shoppers a strong reason to choose last year’s foldable. The Z Flip8 is currently unavailable from Amazon, while Samsung lists its base 12GB/256GB model at £1,150.

A Samsung promotional code can reduce the Z Flip8’s price by £150, but the newer phone would still cost £300 more than the discounted Z Flip7 while offering half the storage. That makes the 2025 model one of the more compelling foldable deals in Amazon UK’s sale.

Galaxy Z Flip7 versus Z Flip8

The Galaxy Z Flip8 does introduce a newer chipset, with Samsung replacing the Flip7’s Exynos 2500 with the Exynos 2600. However, the upgrade is not accompanied by a major redesign or a clear improvement in every area. Thermal throttling remains an issue on the newer phone.

Display brightness is effectively unchanged. Testing measured the inner screen of the Galaxy Z Flip7 at 1,471 nits, compared with 1,470 nits for the Z Flip8. Both phones also use 4,300mAh batteries and support 25W wired charging.

The newer model does last longer between charges, recording an Active Use Score of 14 hours and 14 minutes. That is more than two hours ahead of the Flip7, with the improvement attributed mainly to the more efficient chipset. Charging is also somewhat quicker: a full charge takes 1 hour and 19 minutes on the Z Flip8, compared with 1 hour and 31 minutes on its predecessor.

What the newer foldable adds

The Galaxy Z Flip8 is slimmer and lighter, measuring 13.1mm when closed and weighing 180g. The Z Flip7 measures 13.7mm when closed and weighs 188g. Those differences are modest enough that most buyers would need to compare the phones side by side to notice them.

The Flip8 also uses a silicon-carbon battery. Despite that change, its EPREL charge-cycle rating is lower at 1,200 cycles, compared with 2,000 cycles for the Flip7. Both phones retain the same wired charging rating.

For buyers who prioritise the latest processor and longer battery life, the Z Flip8 remains the more advanced option. For everyone else, the lower price, larger storage allowance and broadly similar display and charging specifications make the Galaxy Z Flip7 the more sensible purchase.

Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is cheaper still

Amazon UK is also discounting the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. The 8GB/256GB model falls to £500 after a 45% reduction during Prime Big Deal Days.

That phone is cheaper, but it is effectively a refreshed version of the Galaxy Z Flip6 rather than a full step forward from the Flip7. The standard Z Flip7 therefore offers a better balance of price and current hardware for shoppers who want a modern Samsung flip phone.
